If an alien has SUDDENLY appeared in your company, do not rush to tell him about the concept of some things on Earth. Let him take the rap. For you. But of course we won't tell him.

Yes, Phobos in AU is so bad in some aspects of earthlings life that Miranda can use this as she pleases, playing with some of his naivety and usual ignorance of things that are common to us. Earth for him is already a chaotic place with strange inhabitants and their culture.

And yes, Phobos and Miranda are jealous owners in relation to everyone whom they, one might say, tolerate, because “The Cedric is MINE, you piece of sh–”. Well, if Phobos originally sees Cedric as a mentor, then with Miranda everything is more complicated - there is outright love-hate.
